Tell us about your life before ALS:
Was in my early 50’s, a good career with the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C.; a husband and father, enjoyed biking, golf, woodworking and my job.

Tell us about your life with ALS:
Now have 2 grandchildren! Still working at the Small Business Administration, commute by bus to office. Active in church (read lessons with my voice synthesizer), enjoy visiting family and friends, sporting events, publish “My Sunday Bulletin,” a compendium of humor from the Internet with a circulation of over 800. I dedicate my birthday to raise funds for ALS research. This effort has raised over $210,000.

Tell us how ALS has brought new significance to any aspect of your life - family, attitude, hobbies/passions, career, etc.:
My mission is to demonstrate that one can live with a debilitating illness like Lou Gehrig’s disease with honor, success and attitude. This year, I received two awards, the Spirit of Hope Award from the CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) and the Daily Inspiration Award from the SBA for attitude and inspiration.
